achievements & priorities

Protecting Muskoka’s natural environment will continue to be one of my central
priorities. Our lakes, forests, and watersheds are not only part of our
identity—they are the foundation of our economy and our quality of life.

Over the next four years, I will focus on practical initiatives that strengthen
environmental stewardship while supporting a strong and sustainable local
economy.

strengthening watershed management

Water is Muskoka’s most important natural asset. Protecting the health of our
lakes and rivers requires a coordinated approach that considers land use,
shoreline protection, stormwater management, and watershed science together.

I will continue advocating for stronger collaboration between municipalities,
environmental organizations, and residents to ensure that watershed health
remains at the center of our planning decisions.

improving environmental resilience

Extreme weather events are becoming more frequent across Canada. Municipal
governments must prepare for changing conditions by strengthening
infrastructure and planning systems.

This means investing in resilient infrastructure, improving stormwater
management, and ensuring that new development is planned with long-term
environmental sustainability in mind.

Supporting Sustainable Economic Development

Muskoka’s natural environment is also the foundation of our tourism sector and
many local businesses. Protecting that environment and supporting economic
growth must go hand in hand.

I will continue supporting initiatives that encourage sustainable tourism,
environmentally responsible development, and business practices that protect
Muskoka’s natural landscapes.

Reducing Waste and Promoting Resource Stewardship

Reducing waste and improving resource efficiency are important parts of
environmental leadership at the local level. I will continue supporting initiatives
that encourage waste reduction, recycling, and innovative community programs
that help residents and businesses reduce their environmental footprint.

engaging the community

Environmental progress requires the participation of the entire community. I will continue working with residents, schools, businesses, and community
organizations to encourage environmental awareness and stewardship.

When people feel connected to the natural environment around them, they are more likely to help protect it.

looking ahead

The environmental challenges facing our communities are real, but so are the
opportunities to address them. With thoughtful planning, collaboration, and
responsible leadership, Muskoka can continue to grow while protecting the
natural landscapes that make our region special.

My commitment is to ensure that Muskoka remains a place where strong
communities and a healthy natural environment go hand in hand.

A Muskoka Climate and Watershed Action Initiative

Muskoka’s identity and prosperity are inseparable from the health of our lakes, rivers, forests, and wetlands. As climate patterns change and development pressures grow, protecting these natural systems requires a more coordinated
and forward-looking approach.

Over the next four years, I will advocate for the creation of a Muskoka Climate and Watershed Action Initiative—a collaborative effort bringing together municipalities, scientists, environmental organizations, businesses, and residents to strengthen long-term environmental stewardship across our region.

A Regional Approach to Watershed Health

Our lakes and rivers are connected systems. Decisions made in one part of a watershed can affect water quality many kilometres away.

This initiative would promote stronger coordination between municipalities,
conservation organizations, and community groups to ensure that watershed health remains central in land-use planning, shoreline management, and environmental monitoring.

Using Science to Guide Local Decisions

Sound environmental policy must be grounded in reliable data. The initiative would encourage expanded monitoring of lake health, watershed conditions, and environmental indicators so that municipal decisions are informed by the best
available science.

By strengthening partnerships with researchers and environmental organizations, Muskoka can remain a leader in evidence-based environmental stewardship.

Preparing for Climate Impacts

Climate change is already affecting communities through changing precipitation patterns, shoreline impacts, and increased pressure on natural ecosystems.

The initiative would support practical steps to help Muskoka adapt to these changes, including improved stormwater planning, protection of wetlands and natural buffers, and infrastructure investments designed to strengthen community resilience.

a long-term commitment

Protecting Muskoka’s environment is not a short-term project—it’s an ongoing
responsibility. By strengthening collaboration and focusing on practical solutions,
we can ensure that Muskoka remains a healthy and vibrant place to live, work,
and visit.

My commitment is to support initiatives that protect the landscapes and waters
that define our region while ensuring that Muskoka continues to thrive for
generations to come.
